Prominent figures rest here, Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s headstone rises above others, a commanding presence amid a sea of marble. JFK’s eternal flame still burns, steady and strong. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier remains guarded, 24/7, by members of the elite 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment. It’s an ongoing commitment to remembrance, discipline, and reverence.
My Visit to Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Weekend
Knowing it would be crowded, I chose to visit on purpose. The flags were everywhere, small ones placed at every headstone for the holiday. It wasn’t just beautiful, it was emotional. I arrived in the afternoon, after a stop at Manassas National Battlefield, and spent a few quiet hours walking the grounds before closing time.

Arlington is open daily but closes at dusk. Entry is free, but you will have to pay for parking. The lot is large, but during busy weekends, it can fill quickly.
